KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s attempt to divorce her husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim has hit a snag. He is refusing to let her go.
Raja Ahmad Sharir, 35, has appealed to the lower Syariah Court here to save his marriage because he still loves his wife and two children.
“If possible, I still want to save my marriage and that is why I do not want to pronounce talak (divorce),” he told reporters after the proceedings held in chambers yesterday.
Nurul Izzah, 34, was accompanied by her counsel Normawaddah Ramli while Raja Ahmad Shahrir arrived with lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais.
Azmi said lower Syariah Court judge Ab Malek Awang advised his client to pronounce talak after he found that there was prolonged disagreement in the marriage or shiqaq.
Raja Ahmad Shahrir, however, disagreed with the suggestion.
The judge then fixed Dec 8 as the next mention date pending the appointment of twohakam or arbitrators.
