PETALING JAYA, Oct 30 — Another suspect has been arrested in connection with a RM2 million security van heist on Monday.
Police managed to recover RM1 million following the arrest of the 30-year-old at an undisclosed location in Pahang yesterday.
“The suspect was arrested at 3.30am and was taken to the Serdang police headquarters to assist investigations,” a police source said.
“We believe there are two or three other suspects involved in the heist and the remaining stolen money is probably with them.”
He said a manhunt has been launched to track down the other suspects.
On the day of the incident, police arrested four security guards of Safeguards G4S Sdn Bhd following their inconsistent statement on how they lost RM2 million during the heist.
The four had earlier collected cash from several banks at 9pm in Equine Park in Seri Kembangan. However, instead of heading straight to their office, they stopped by a restaurant for dinner in Lestari Perdana.
The driver of the armoured vehicle claimed he was tired and took a nap while his three colleagues dined.
The driver said two men, one armed with a gun, later appeared out of nowhere and drove the van to a deserted shop-lot area in Taman Equine before escaping with the cash.
“We are checking if the suspect from Pahang had previously worked for the security company.”
A spokesman for Safeguards G4S Sdn Bhd, when contacted, declined to comment on the case saying it was under police investigations.
