Thiyagarajan, 34, has spoken of their horror on learning of his tragic death in an accident off the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur road near Bidor, last Sunday.
Thiyagarajan, a lorry driver by profession, was killed when the car he was in plunged into a ravine at Km62.5 and turned turtle, pinning him underneath in the 3am incident.
The driver of the vehicle, A. Nicholas Andrew, 33, crawled through the jungle with a broken right arm and right leg for three days before he was rescued.
At Thiyagarajan’s home in Taman Tapah Baru, Tapah yesterday, his mother A. Rasama, 57, wept bitterly describing how his family had lost a doting and responsible son.
“I loved him so much. He was kind and helpful to everyone, regardless of who you were.
“He was also very responsible, from the days when he was working in construction in Sabah to his most recent job as a lorry driver, which he had only been doing for a few months.
“My son was the sole breadwinner of the family and every sen he earned he gave to the family.
“I don’t know what we are going to do now.”
Thiyagarajan, the eldest of three siblings, was the second death in the family after his youngest brother died from illness 10 years ago.
Thiyagarajan leaves his wife, S. Parvathi, 32, and their three young children aged four, two, and 11 months.
His friend M. Narayanan, 36, described him as a responsible man who had many friends in the area.
“He was a Tapah boy to the core, born and raised here. As such, he was well loved by everyone.
“I remember him as a man who was devoted to taking care of his friends and family.
“He was merely helping his friend Nicholas when the accident happened.
“It is sad he has left us, especially with such a young family and in such a tragic circumstance,” said self-employed Narayanan.
Thiyagarajan’s body was found on Wednesday, three days after the accident on Sunday.
Police recovered his remains after being informed of the accident location by Andrew — employed at the Territorial Army Camp in Teluk Intan — after he regained consciousness on Wednesday evening
