Hairdresser acquitted of radio deejay’s mom murder

KUALA LUMPUR: A hairdresser took a step backwards while in the dock today after hearing the High Court had acquitted him of a murder charge.
Lim Kang Wee, 32, was charged with the murder of My FM Mandarin radio station deejay's mother three years ago.
Judge Kamardin Hashim ordered him released without his defence being called because the prosecution
failed to prove a prima facie case against him.
Kamardin ruled that the court could not accept prosecution evidence based on a closed-circuit television(CCTV) footage that purportedly recorded the murderer at the crime scene because it was not tendered
in accordance with Section 90A of the Evidence Act.
He said the prosecution evidence were not strong because among others, the blood stains on a pair of gloves found inside a car near the crime scene only had Lim's blood and none belonging to the victim
Lai Kam Lian.
Kamardin noted that the prosecution failed to produce sufficient evidence to prove Lim's motive for the murder as the present case was heavily reliant on circumstantial evidence.
Lim quickly left the court after a police officer uncuffed him.
He was charged at the magistrate's court in Dec 15, 2011, with murdering Lai, 62, at her house at No. 3/194B, Jalan Udang Kertas,Taman Segambut, Sentul here, at 9.45pm on Dec 1, the same year. Lim's
case was later transferred to the High Court.
