JOHOR BARU: Johor FA president president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said he kicked a corner flag after Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) win on Thursday night to express his "celebration" for the home victory.
JDT edged Terengganu 3-1 in the Malaysia Cup quarter-final return-leg match in Larkin Stadium.
As soon as the match ended, Tunku Ismail walked to the corner flag and kicked it.
He clarified that his action was done out of happiness and not anger as portrayed over live television broadcast, "a way of celebration for JDT's win against Terengganu."
He said he was emulating Paris Saint German player Zlatan Ibrahimovic's style of celebrating a goal, and had no intention of insulting anyone.
"I did not even kick anyone. It was just a pole.
"I do not understand why some people's mindset is so backwards. I was merely celebrating like the sportsman that I am," he told a press conference here Friday.
