PETALING JAYA: World No. 1 Nicol David has created history by claiming her third US Open title in a row.
The Malaysian defeated Nour El Sherbini of Egypt 11-5, 12-10, 12-10 in straight games in Philadelphia.
Nicol is the first player in the 60-year history of the US Open Squash Championships to win three titles in a row.
Earlier, Nicol overcame a third-set meltdown and her nemesis Raneem El Welily to storm into the final of the US Open.
The 31-year-old Nicol demonstrated fine athleticism to beat the Egyptian 11-3, 15-13, 6-11, 11-7 on Friday.
Eighteen-year-old Nour defeated world No. 6 Camille Serme of France 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 in the other semi-final.
The three-time world junior champion had ended Nicol’s run at the Women’s World Championship in Penang, sending her packing in the semi-finals in front of her hometown crowd in March.
