The nation’s top cop wants action taken against social media users who had posted abusive remarks against him on twitter after police rounded up Penang voluntary patrol squad members (PPS) today.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) instructed the Federal Commercial Crimes Investigation Department to begin investigations immediately.
Khalid tweeted: "PCIRC @PDRMsia sila ambil tindakan terhadap org biadap ini yg menggelar IGP 'Anjing BN'." (Please take action against this rude person who called the IGP BN's dog.)
The tweet had allegedly been posted by Nasrul Omar (@ennasrul) at 12.50pm today.
Khalid also singled out another offensive tweet against him where he was compared to notorious Nazi commander Henrich Himmler.
Twitter user Viktor Wong (@wonghoicheng) tweeted: "Bastardization of @PDRMsia. Thanks to the ruthless @KBAB51 Henrich Himmler of Malaysia.
Khalid responded: "PCIRC @PDRMsia, juga dikesan seorg lagi yg biadap ini untuk di ambil tindakan."
(Another rude person has been detected for action to be taken against.)
Penang police arrested about 250 PPS members during the state-level Merdeka celebrations, following earlier warnings issued by Khalid.
The PPS members were stopped by the police immediately after they had participated in the official march-past, as part of the annual parade in Penang.
Police took the 250 PPS members to the Lebuh Pantai police station for questioning, while the federal reserve unit cordoned off the area.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had criticised police for declaring the PPS illegal.
The Penang government launched the PPS in 2010 as a volunteer group aimed at providing help during disaster, festivities, weddings and funerals and currently counts some 7,702 members.
Lim said that the state government would pay for legal aid if police arrested PPS members for non-criminal wrongdoing.
Earlier, Khalid had told Bernama that PPS had strayed from its original objectives after police reports were lodged against its members.
PPS members were alleged to have assaulted journalists and members of the public, which prompted the police reports. – August 31, 2014.
