KUALA LUMPUR: Fire broke out at Kamdar shopping centre forcing about 200 people, including 90 customers, to be evacuated in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Tuesday.
No injury was reported in the 7pm fire which started on the first floor of the seven-storey garments and clothing outlet.
Sales assistant Annurul Izzati Fauzi, 20, said she was walking to the toilet when she smell smoke.
"The next thing I knew, my colleague alerted us to help evacuate the customers and other workers," she said.
Her colleague, Annurul Izzati, said thick smoke was coming out of the air-condition ventilators and everyone was told to get out of the building.
City Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Azizan Ismail said 90 firemen brought the fire under control in about two hours and the thick smoke made it difficult to locate the electrical switch boards.
"Checks revealed that the fire started on the first floor and spread all the way up to the fourth floor," he said.
