Families of some Malaysian victims in MH17 crash agree to Dutch cremation

Several Malaysian Chinese victims on board MH17 will be cremated in the Netherlands before the ashes are flown back to Malaysia, The Star reported.

The paper quotes Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai as saying in the Star that the families have agreed to this arrangement.
Liow said some families have given their consent, adding that so far, two Malaysians victims have been identified.
However, could not confirm the exact number of families who have agreed to this arrangement, adding that the ongoing post-mortem is to be completed next week.
"We don't know when the remains can be sent to Malaysia but we will coordinate with the Dutch authorities to ensure they can be returned as soon as possible," he said.
There were 43 Malaysians on board the Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur flight, which was downed as it flew over eastern Ukraine on July 17.
None of the 298 on board survived.
Liow and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein are also expected to discuss today a proposal on "a moment of silence" to be observed by the entire nation when the remains of the victims are brought home.
According to Hishammuddin, the observation of silence  could be for longer than a minute, where everything would come to a standstill, adding that the idea would be tabled before the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. – August 11, 2014.
