Woman floors thieves with punch and kicks

MALACCA: A plucky woman motorcyclist fought off two snatch thieves delivering a punch and a kick when they tried to snatch her bracelet.
She then followed up with another kick to floor the culprits, causing the two to fall off their own motorcycle.
Technician Nuratika Idris, 22, was riding her machine to work along Jalan Cheng near Batu Berendam here when the two men approached her near a junction at 6.20pm on Thursday. They then tried to snatch her gold bracelet.
Witness Ricky Loh, 41, who was behind Nurtika said the incident happened so fast.
“I was even more surprised that the girl fought back. She gave them a kick and a punch,” he said.
Loh said the victim followed and caught with them at a junction near a wet market in Batu Berendam.
“She gave them another kick and the duo fell off their motorcycle. They were hurt. The two men panicked and looked disoriented.
“Then, two other men on a motorcycle came and all four rode off into a back alley,” he said.
Loh said the victim stood up and rode her motorcycle away in front of the crowd that had gathered at the scene.
When contacted, Nurtika admitted that she was terrified and did not expect that she would be a victim of snatch thieves.
“It happened so fast. My instinct told me that I should fight back,” she added.
Nurtika said her friend became a victim a few weeks ago when her handbag was robbed in the same way.
She also said that she saved money to buy her bracelet, which cost RM2,000.
“I worked so hard to get it. Those rascals just want to grab it,” she added.
Nurtika, who was injured on her knees and arms, said she would recuperate at her home before returning to work.
