Dept forgot to notify me, says exco member
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) told state executive councillor for Islamic affairs Sallehin Mukyi that it forgot to notify him and the Mentri Besar’s office of the raid on the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM).
About 350 copies of Bibles and Christian publications were carted away from the office of the society in Damansara Kim on Thursday.
Sallehin, who met Jais director Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad and the head of the enforcement team which led the raid, said: “They conducted the raid after they felt that there was a breach of the Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment, 1988.”
The enactment prohibits the use of “kalimah Allah” and other Quranic terms by non-Muslims.
Sallehin said he had asked Ahmad Zaharin to submit a report on the incident, adding that he would also meet BSM representatives on Monday before briefing Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
“We need to listen to both sides before forwarding the information to the Mentri Besar\B,” he said.
Sallehin said Khalid would seek an audience with the Selangor Sultan if Jais had breached its powers.
Among the items seized were bibles in Bahasa Malaysia, or Al-Kitab, and those in the Iban language, also known as Bup Kud
