KUALA LUMPUR: Illegal immigrants detained under Phase 2 of the 6P Integrated Operation nationwide will have their identity recorded in the biometric database system to ensure they cannnot re-enter Malaysia.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said all illegals nabbed in the nationwide crackdown which began late last night would also be deported to their countries of origin within seven days.
"Their repatriation will not be borne by the Malaysian government, but by their employers or the respective foreign embassies," he told reporters at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, today.
He said 1,565 illegals comprising 695 Indonesians, 255 Bangladeshis, 157 Myanmars and the rest from Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, China, Nigeria and Thailand were arrested in 107 operations nationwide last night.
Ahmad Zahid said the illegals, who had no valid travel documents and no valid work permits, were detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Amended 2010).
"The operation carried out with the relevant enforcement agencies will continue until the year-end to detect, detain, charge and deport foreign illegals."
He said last night's operation involved 2,015 personnel from various agencies including the Immigration Department, Rela, police, Civil Defence Department, National Registration Department and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. - BERNAMA
KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities arrested 454 illegal immigrants in a massive joint-operation in Chow Kit, here, this morning.
The 12.05am raid on flat units in Wisma Hock Ann, which was known to be infested by illegal immigrants, was conducted by 230 officers from the city Immigration Department, police, National Registration Department, Civil Defence Department, City Hall and Rela.
City Immigration Department enforcement division chief James Musa Singa said the suspects, including 82 women, were detained for various offences including for not having valid travel documents, overstay as well as in possession of counterfeited working permits.
“In this operation, we conducted door-to-door search for illegal immigrants.
“From 918 people checked, we detained 454 illegal immigrants of different nationalities,” he said.
He said the suspects, aged between 20 and 50, were from Indonesia (257), Bangladesh (60), India (39), Pakistan (18), Myanmar (41), Nepal (30), Vietnam (2), and one each from Thailand, Yemen, Togo, Nigeria.
Three other suspects’ nationalities could not be determined.
The raid, which was conducted barely seven hours after the 6P registration period ended on Monday, was also joined by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Home Ministry’s deputy secretary-general Datuk Wahab Mohd Yasin, and Immigration Department deputy director-general Sakib Kusmi.
Similar raids were also conducted simultaneously by authorities nationwide.
