DBKL OFFICER WEARING POLICE VEST BEATEN TO DEATH BY GROUP OF NIGERIANS IN ATTEMPT TO ROB THEM

KUALA LUMPUR: A City Hall (DBKL) officer was beaten to death last night by a group of young Nigerians in a failed robbery attempt at an apartment in Taman Pusat Kepong.
In the 9.30pm incident, the 52 year-old City Hall officer identified as Sazali Mokhtar together with two other accomplices barged into the apartment rented by two Nigerian students demanding RM5,000.
The duo however refused to abide to the demand and contacted other friends who lived in the same apartment block for back-up.
It is learnt that seven Nigerian nationals turned up to ‘settle’ the matter before a scuffle broke out.
Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief, Khairi Ahrasa said this morning that all three suspects were wearing police vests when they entered the apartment.
“All three of them were wearing police vests. The 52 year old victim who died is a DBKL officer. The second suspect is also a DBKL officer and the third suspect was a former DBKL officer.
“Prior to the incident, one of Nigerians managed to call for help and seven people came to solve the matter.
“A fight broke out and the man died after sustaining head injuries while a Nigerian national received nine stitches on the head as a result of the fight,” Khairi said at  a press conference.
Khairi then added that the two suspects have been arrested for robbery and have also recorded statements from the Nigerians involved.
“At the moment two of the suspects have been detained and now we are trying to identify the person who caused the death of the 52 year-old man,” he said.
“We have yet to arrest any Nigerians as we currently investigating the incident,” said Khairi.
Khairi also offered some words of advice for the public who might come across similar situation in the future by saying that there is no need to use excessive force to resolve a feud.
“They came to help their friends but somehow the situation went overboard. There is no need to use extreme force in this kind of situation.
“Citizen arrest is legal under the law but at the end of the day, a crime has been committed,” he added.
