KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman was found dead while his teen daughter is fighting for her life in the hospital with 70 percent burns following a fire at their home at Taman Pandan Perdana near here Sunday.
Ng Chee Wei, 52 was found dead beside his 17-year-old daughter Ng Gi Jang in the upstair room of their two storey terrace home.
“The girl was found in a semi-conscious state ... was rushed to the Ampang Hospital,” said Selangor state Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operation) Mohd Sani Harul.
He said 15 firemen from the Ampang and Pandan Fire stations rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.56pm.
"When our personnel arrived about 9 minutes later, the fire was almost completely doused by the victim's neighbours,
"Both father and daughter were found in the master bedroom on the second floor," he said adding that it was believed that the fire started in the second floor living room.
Hulu Langat Fire and Rescue Department chief Hamdan Daud said the teen was found sprawled beside her father and that both victims were alone at the time of the incident.
He said the fire was noticed when a neighbour’s dog began barking, alerting other residents who tried in vain to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire and damage had yet to be ascertained, he added.
Ampang police chief ACP Khairuldin Saad, when contacted, said the police would investigate the fire.
