A 23-year-old student was killed when he crashed his car into a utility pole

MALACCA: A 23-year-old student was killed when he crashed his car into a utility pole before hitting a huge tree at Jalan Bukit Baru here early today.

In the 4am incident, Goh Tiam Wang was flung out of the Nissan Sylphy and was pinned to the tree.


 
A police source said Goh was travelling from Jalan Tun Razak to Jalan Penghulu Abbas on the way back to his home in Taman Saujana Indah Bukit Katil. 
 
It is learnt that he Goh lost control of his car while negotiating a bend, causing it to swerve to the left side of the road before hitting the pole.

Witness Aliff Irfam Jaafar, 20, said he was having supper with friends at a nearby foodstall when the incident occurred.
 
"I heard the sound of a loud screeching of a car breaking and I turned to see a white car crashing into an electrical pole before spinning several times and hittinng the tree.

"My friends and I rushed to help and the man was still alive at the time but trapped between the car and the tree," he said.
 
The Fire and Rescue personnel took 30minutes to extricate the victim from the wreckage.
 
Meanwhile, Central Malacca police chief Assistant Commissioner Salehudin Abd Rahman said the victim died on the spot due to severe head injuries and his body was sent to the Malacca Hospital for post mortem.
