Raghad begs the public to stop all assumptions and malicious accusations against her because her priority at the moment is to take care of her husband, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud. - Raghad Taib's Instagram

KUCHING: The wife of the former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud appealed to the people of Sarawak to stop the accusations and malicious suspicions against her.

In an open letter to the media around 1.21 this morning, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib said that she was aware of the spread of news about the incident of Abdul Taib's escape from a specialist hospital here.

"For the past few days, images and news have been spread on portals and social media that tarnish my image and good name as the wife of the former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak.

"My only concern at the moment is the well-being of my husband, Tun Taib.

"I humbly beg you to stop all these assumptions and malicious accusations against me because my priority is only to take care of my husband at this point," he said.

Raghad also appealed to all parties not to believe any rumors that she will run away.

"Although I am a foreigner, I am now a Malaysian and will always be a Malaysian.

"I will not leave this country and will continue my charity work for the people of Sarawak after Tun Taib returns to health, God willing.

"With this, I hope you can all gather and pray for Tun Taib. Thank you."

Since yesterday, the content of a news portal went viral claiming that Raghad had escaped Abdul Taib from a specialist hospital, by removing all the treatment gadgets attached to his body.

Also viral, a copy of the police report by the hospital in addition to a photo of Abdul Taib being treated.

Raghad yesterday evening also informed through her social media that the accusation is untrue and malicious , while claiming to have obtained the permission of the nurse on duty and uploaded the note by the nurse in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Abdul Taib, 87 years old, finished his 10-year service as the Chief Minister of Sarawak last Monday, and was replaced by his protégé , Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Before this, Abdul Taib, who held various positions in the state and federal cabinets since 1963, was the Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years.
