According to King Sing, the action was taken due to the deterioration of Ammar's performance, which was described as unsatisfactory and reaching the set standards.

KUALA LUMPUR: The former Director General of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board, Datuk Ammar Abd Ghapar has not been sacked but instead demoted to Deputy Director, said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

According to King Sing, the action was taken because of the decline in Ammar's performance, which was described as unsatisfactory and did not reach the set standards.

He explained that MOTAC has decided that the successor to the position will be held by Manoharan Periasamy, and the appointment will be made according to the prescribed procedure.

"I have given many opportunities and advice including my deputy... what he can do best for our country regarding tourism.

"But I don't know... he has no idea or he doesn't know. If you can't ' perform ' I have to change and it's not fired.

"I would only demote him, indeed from the past when the Director General (KP), the former KP of pensions, he was indeed on the list, not number one.

"I gave him a chance because he has a PhD in tourism.

"But he didn't do the job, he didn't prove the PhD.

He does not deal with the states," he told reporters after the Opening Ceremony of the National Craft Day (HKK) 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex here on Saturday.
