PUTRAJAYA: The government decided to give immediate approval to special chartered flights to boost the influx of tourists to Malaysia.
The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the matter is in line with the government's policy in facilitating the country's economy, especially in the tourism sector.
"In technical matters such as visas, I have discussed with the Minister of Home Affairs and the minister said that the first stage we can start immediately is chartered flights .
"Otherwise we are looking at the development but it is in line with our policy which is what action can please and attract tourists to Malaysia, what action is appropriate, that should be given consideration," he said.
He said this while speaking at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture's Aidilfitri Friendly Ceremony on Monday.
In the meantime, the Prime Minister also expressed his pride in the ministry's achievements for successfully increasing the number of tourists coming to the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in his speech said that a total of 4.38 million foreign tourists were recorded as visiting Malaysia in the first three months of this year.
"Of that number, 178,150 tourists are from China," he said.
Last February, King Sing through a post on his Facebook page suggested that local airlines conduct research and develop special charter flights to Malaysia to attract and facilitate the arrival of tourists to this country.
