SINGAPORE: Singapore recorded a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius on Saturday (May 13), equaling the record for the highest maximum temperature reported 40 years ago.
"A high of 37.0 degrees Celsius, the hottest year so far recorded at Ang Mo Kio. This is the highest daily maximum temperature for May, surpassing the previous high of 36.7 degrees Celsius recorded at Admiralty last year.
"It also equaled the record of 37 degrees Celsius that was last recorded in Tengah on April 17, 1983," quoted the official Facebook page of the republic's National Environment Agency (NEA).
According to NEA, Singapore's temperature record dates back to 1929.
"Hot and dry conditions are expected to continue today (May 14). Intermittent rain is forecast next week which can help reduce hot temperatures," according to NEA. - BERNAMA
