GEORGE TOWN: The Michelin Guide will announce the latest restaurants on its list, revealing some of the additions to the guide ahead of its annual unveiling ceremony.

Michelin Experiences Communications Director Elisabeth Boucher-Anselin said the June announcement will involve restaurants in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

"The inspection team has collectively decided that before the 2024 Michelin Guide Council, to announce the new globally selected restaurants in Malaysia, we will release the latest and best findings of the inspectors.

"We don't want to wait until the end of a year to reveal the inspection team's findings. We want to say that the restaurant involved is great that we will definitely consider being part of the Michelin Guide," he told reporters in a recent online interview.

He said the new findings open up opportunities to highlight the Malaysian restaurant industry as well as support new restaurants.

He said the findings were driven by the discovery of inspectors who hid their identities in the field.

"We will not reveal whether it is a restaurant with a star, bib gourmand or one green star, we want to highlight this place," he said.

In addition, he said all restaurants in the 2024 selection will be evaluated by inspectors based on five criteria, namely quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of taste, expression of the chef's personality in the dishes and consistency based on time and throughout the menu.

He added that all evaluations and special awards related to the selection of the latest restaurants will be revealed exclusively at the annual ceremony, in addition to being promoted on the official website and mobile application of the Michelin Guide.

"We hope this regular exposure and updating will create excitement and give Malaysian food lovers the opportunity to continue supporting this profession and we invite everyone to try these restaurants," he said.

The Michelin Guide announced its first selection for Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2023 last December, involving 97 restaurants covering 20 types of dishes including four restaurants with one Michelin star. - BERNAMA
