KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 -- A suspended police corporal was apprehended on suspicion of robbing a Chinese woman at a restaurant in Pandan Perdana, near here, yesterday.
Ampang Jaya district deputy police chief Supt Mohd Azam Ismail said in the incident at about 7 pm, the suspect with two other men approached the 29-year-old victim who was having a drink at the restaurant and introduced himself as a policeman.
He said the suspect then grabbed the woman's hands and pulled her towards a parking lot.
The victim, who worked as a saleswoman, shouted for help and her screams were heard by members of the public who rushed to her aid and detained the suspect before handing him over to the police.
The 46-year-old suspect was arrested while his two accomplices managed to escape and were now being hunted by the police.
The victim did not sustain any injuries but reportedly lost RM5,000 in cash as well as several makeup items, he said in a statement today.
“The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until this Sunday,” he said.
