SEREMBAN, Aug 22 -- Police have arrested a 27-year-old man to facilitate a fatal road crash investigation in which three people died in Kampung Mambau here, early this morning.

Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Said Ibrahim said the man was arrested this evening after a statement taken from a 61-year-old man who had previously claimed to be the driver of the vehicle which had rammed into a married couple on a motorcycle (K Thamotharan, 44 and wife S Ramadevi, 38,) and a female pedestrian (Noraniza Mohamed Amin, 42)

“CCTV footage at the scene of the accident found that the driver of the Perodua Myvi car did not look like a 61-year-old man. Finally based on conversation recordings and after watching the CCTV footage, the elderly man admitted that the Perodua Myvi driver was his son.

“Acting on information received, the police detained the suspect and brought him to the Seremban district police headquarters for further action,” he said.

The suspect tested negative for drugs and alcohol, and will be remanded for further investigation.

In the 6 am incident, a husband and wife, aged 44 and 38, respectively, and a 42-year-old woman died, after being hit by a car heading towards Mambau from Seremban which veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the Demak motorcycle, which the couple was riding on.

“The impact caused the car to spin and hit the 42-year-old woman who was walking along the road,” he said in a statement here today.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were taken to the Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
