KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 -- Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has been slapped with a RM1,000 compound by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for failing to observe the mandatory 14-day quarantine after returning from a trip abroad last month.

The compound was issued on Aug 7 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342), the MOH said in a statement today.

Mohd Khairuddin paid the fine, it added.

"Mohd Khairuddin returned from Turkey on July 7 and the first nasopharyngeal swab sample was taken on the same day and was found to be negative.

"The second and third COVID-19 screenings also returned negative," the MOH said.

Mohd Khairuddin came under the media spotlight this week when Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok claimed Mohd Khairuddin had not served the 14-day obligatory quarantine after returning from a trip to Turkey on July 7.

Following this, Mohd Khairuddin who is also PAS central committee member, was criticised by many parties for not adhering to standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the authorities, despite being a minister himself.
