KOTA BHARU, June 21 --The 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA7) yesterday detained two men, during a raid on an illegal base near Nibong in Pasir Mas, after they were believed to be involved in the smuggling of frozen meat worth over RM80,000 into a neighbouring country.

It is learned that during the raid the local duo, along with other men believed to be foreigners, were loading boxes from a lorry parked near the banks of Sungai Golok on the Malaysian side of the border, onto a boat.

PGA7 commanding officer Supt Azhari Nusi said the suspicious looking white truck was spotted by a team patrolling around Jalan Kasban which is between Pos Pisau Raut and Pos Nibong, at about 3.30pm.

On realising police’s presence Azhari said several men fled into the neighbouring country taking along with them the boxes which had earlier been loaded into the boat.

“However, both the lorry driver and attendant could not escape and were arrested,” he said adding that the smuggled goods were for foreign markets

The remaining boxes of frozen goods and vehicle were seized and handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) Kelantan office, for further action and investigation under Section 11 (2) of the Maqis Act 2011.
