KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Police arrested four local men and a woman, a Chinese national, all of whom are believed to be members of ‘Gang Ah Wai’ responsible for a series of robberies in the city in the past three months.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said based on public information and intelligence work, the suspects, aged between 26 and 33, were nabbed in three separate raids in the Klang Valley.
"Following the arrests, we successfully solved eight cases that took place in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang. The suspects are also believed to be involved in 30 other cases which are still being investigated.
"Police also seized four luxury cars, vehicle theft tools including a GPS tracker and a key programmer as well as 17 branded bags, all of which are valued a total RM1.1mil.
"Investigations found that the male suspects have prior criminal records for robbery, burglary, vehicle theft and drug abuse,” he told a media conference at Brickfields police headquarters on Friday.
All five also tested positive for drugs, Comm Mazlan said.
Comm Mazlan said the gang usually breaks into homes in affluent areas and also targets vehicles.
"The stolen vehicles will be used for their robbery activities and later sold off based on demand.
"Besides this, they had also used several rented homes in the Klang Valley as meeting points to plan their activities and to store stolen vehicles,” he said.- Bernama
