A restaurant operator was fined RM7,000 for provoking a Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) officer by throwing a rubbish bin towards him during an enforcement exercise on illegal parking.

MPKj president Datuk Rosli Othman said the incident took place at a commercial centre in Bandar Baru Bangi on the morning of Jan 17 when an enforcement officer was about to issue a compound because a pick-up truck was parked on motorcycle parking bays.“The vehicle owner, who operates a restaurant nearby, became enraged and acted aggressively by throwing the rubbish bin towards the enforcement officer, obstructing him from doing his duty.

“Our enforcement officer did not respond to the provocation and filed a police report on the incident immediately.

“Police arrested the suspect the same evening and remanded him for four days.

“He was later convicted and found guilty for provocation,” he said during the full board meeting at Menara MPKj.

Rosli said another police report was lodged against an illegal post-delivery confinement centre operator in Bandar Mahkota Cheras on Jan 20 for breaking a padlock that was used to seal the premises for unlawful activity earlier that day.

“This is our second attempt to seal the post-delivery confinement centre. Earlier, we only used tape but the operator removed it and continued business as usual.

“This time, we used tape and a padlock. The padlock has been broken and business is as usual again.

“We were told that the intermediate residential landed unit used was rented by the post-delivery confinement centre operator.

“We are waiting for police to complete their investigation,” he said.

Rosli also mentioned that the council was mulling on increasing the assessment rate, which has not been changed since 1985.

“It is high time that the assessment tax is increased, so that the council has higher revenue to provide better services for the people. However, we have to wait for the right time to implement it,” he said.
