PETALING JAYA: Lawyer and activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan (pic) has slammed DAP lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh for chiding Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over Pakatan Harapan's defeat in five by-elections.

In response to the Bukit Gelugor MP's statement, Ambiga questioned the five by-elections Pakatan won since the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.

"What about the successes? What happened to collective responsibility? You cannot keep attacking your leader and then ask why Pakatan is weak. Could you do that in your party without consequences," she tweeted.

"Sorry Ram my friend. I disagree with you here," Ambiga added. The tweet received 189 likes and was re-tweeted over 70 times.

Ramkarpal had said Dr Mahathir must take responsibility for the defeat in the recent Kimanis by-election and added that his statement about being open to working with anyone does not inspire confidence.

"The Prime Minister’s confirmation that he is open to working with anyone as long as it is not Datuk Seri Najib Razak implies that Pakatan may work with the likes of Umno and others which were convincingly voted out in GE14.

"This certainly does not inspire confidence in Pakatan's commitment to real reform, the platform on which it achieved the impossible in GE14 by defeating Barisan Nasional after 61 years in power," he said in a statement.

Since GE14, Pakatan won by-elections in Sungai Kandis, Balakong, Seri Setia, Port Dickson and Sandakan. Aside from Kimanis, Barisan Nasional also won the by-elections in Cameron Highlands, Semenyih, Rantau, and Tanjung Piai.
