KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah graced the conferment of rank ceremony for their two sons at Istana Negara on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Sultan Abdullah, who is the Supreme Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces, personally conferred the rank of Second Lieutenant to the Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah and the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Tengku Panglima Raja Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah.

Also present were members of the Pahang royal family as well as Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Army chief General Tan Sri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany and Air Force chief Lieutenant General Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad.

Following the conferment of the rank, Tengku Hassanal will be deployed to the 4th Mechanised Brigade of the 12th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment based in Pahang, while Tengku Amir, to the 1st Battalion of the 505th Regiment of the Territorial Army, also based in Pahang.

Tengku Hassanal completed his 44-week training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom at the end of last year.

On Dec 13,2019, Tengku Hassanal, 24, was among the 242 cadet officers commissioned at the Sovereign's Parade at Sandhurst, graced by Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who was representing Queen Elizabeth II.

Both Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah attended the ceremony.

RMAS is one of several military academies of the United Kingdom and is the British Army's initial officer training centre. For decades, it has trained many members of the royalty and leaders.

Sultan Abdullah himself attended the academy from 1978 to 1979 and was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1980.

Among the notable alumni of the academy are the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail, Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. – Bernama
