PETALING JAYA: The top posts in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) look set to be won uncontested after the chairman, president and deputy president won their division polls uncontested.

The nomination, which closed at 3pm Sunday (Jan 26), saw Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir being retained as division chiefs of Langkawi, Pagoh and Jerlun, respectively.

Bersatu Youth Wing (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman managed to win the Muar division chief post, giving him a leg up over those who may take him on for the post of Armada chief later on.

So far, sources say two others might be challenging the Youth and Sports Minister for the post - namely lecturer Muzammil Ismail, 30, and film producer Razalif Mohd Zain, 30, from Seaview Park.

Muzammil, who is contesting the Padang Terap Bersatu division chief's post, is currently an Armada exco.

Incumbent Bersatu Women chief Datuk Rina Harun, who is also Rural Development Minister, will be contesting for a post at the Sepang Bersatu division.

Although it has yet to be known which post she will be contesting as the nominations are still being sorted, it is widely speculated that she will be contesting for the post of Sepang Bersatu division chief.

Sources say that Rina's main contender for the Bersatu Women's wing chief post is lawyer Azlina Mehtab Mohd Ishaq, the incumbent chief of yjr Kepala Batas Bersatu division.

Rina and Azlina both hail from Puteri Umno, the women's youth wing in Umno.

Nomination day for positions in Bersatu branches was on Jan 26 and polling will take place from March 29, while the divisional polls will be on April 18.

Nomination for Bersatu supreme council positions will be open on March 16 and the annual general meeting will be held from June 25 to June 28.

For the top three supreme council posts, only members with three years of membership can contest. As for the rest of the positions, they are open to those who have been members for one year or more.

Bersatu currently has 363,131 members nationwide and there are 2,950 branches in 189 divisions, except in Sarawak.
