PETALING JAYA: Police have been urged to take action against a religious preacher for saying that Malaysia is ruled by a communist government, with police reports filed by PPBM and Amanah.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has added to the calls, saying the remarks by the “ustaz”, Sharkawi Ishak, made at an event organised by PAS and Umno in Penang last week, should not go unpunished.

Lim also urged authorities to take action against Saifullah Baiduri, president of the Malaysian Muslim Students Coalition (Gamis), for saying that the country could see a repeat of the 1969 race riots if the government did not ban Chinese educationist group Dong Zong.

“If Saifullah and the ustaz are given immunity and impunity to make such baseless, incendiary and irresponsible statements, promoting hate, distrust, bigotry and intolerance among Malaysians, Malaysia will never succeed as a united, democratic, progressive, prosperous and successful nation but will suffer the fate of a failed, backward, divided and broken country,” said Lim.

Saifullah was quoted as saying that Dong Zong was “a pus within the nation’s unity, and sows anti-nationalistic doctrines among the Chinese community”.

“As long as this organisation is still in power, the authorities seem to be allowing the black history of May 13, 1969 to recur,” he was quoted by Malay Mail Online.

Dong Zong is among Chinese educationists protesting the government’s move to teach the Jawi script in vernacular schools.

Meanwhile, Sharkawi, popularly known as “Ustad Rempit”, had in a speech said Malaysia is ruled by communists who “only look after their race and want to destroy Malaysia”.

He was speaking at an event organised by Muafakat Nasional, the Umno-PAS partnership, in Permatang Pasir, Penang, on Dec 20.

Penang Amanah and Terengganu PPBM have lodged separate police reports against Sharkawi.
