Azmin and Anwar to have showdown talks at Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: Following speculations of strained ties, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has turned up to meet PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss several issues including his attendance in the party's upcoming national congress this Thursday (Dec 5) in Melaka.
“Me and the central leadership committee, who was elected in last year’s party congress will meet with Anwar now.
“We will discuss about the party’s position and preparations for the congress which will begin Thursday night until Sunday.
“We will discuss several pressing issues and I want to state here that me and the leadership will attend the congress this week,” said the PKR deputy president to reporters in Parliament.
Azmin and Anwar, along with leaders aligned to their respective factions, are set to meet in Parliament on Wednesday.
Asked by reporters on which congress he would attend, following speculations of a parallel congress, Azmin refused to divulge further.
“I will issue an official statement after me and my friends elected in last year’s party congress, meets with the president.
“Let me discuss with the president, we will share outcome of the meeting with the media," he said.
He was accompanied by PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari, Sivarasa Rasiah, Genie Lim, Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar, and several other leaders.
PKR’s National Congress is scheduled to take place starting Thursday (Dec 5) until Sunday (Dec 8) evening.
It was reported recently in The Star that the group loyal to Azmin is planning to hold their own gathering - or a parallel congress - on the same day as the party congress on Dec 6.
Azmin has been notably absent in the party’s political bureau meetings for several months following strained ties with Anwar’s faction.
