Azmin nowhere to be seen as final day of PKR congress gets underway

PKR’s top leaders, minus deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, on the stage at the start of the final day of the party congress this morning.

AYER KEROH: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali was nowhere to be seen as the final day of the party’s national congress got underway this morning at the Melaka International Trade Centre.

Azmin and several of his allies had been expected to skip today’s proceedings after they walked out midway through yesterday’s delegates’ debates.PKR adviser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and vice-president Tian Chua at the congress this morning.

Also not seen were vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, Wanita chief Haniza Talha and youth deputy chief Hilman Idham. Vice-president Tian Chua was, however, present.

Party president Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the half-empty hall shortly after 9am.

However, more members started arriving and a party official said the quorum of one-third of the delegates had been met. The hall was nearly full as proceedings got underway.

Yesterday, Azmin and other party leaders had accused Anwar of failing to honour his promise to ensure that all speakers stayed away from personal attacks and mocking others.Delegates at the PKR National Congress this morning.

They said Anwar’s retelling of the story of Si Kitul and Raja Mendeliar, a tale of betrayal, opened the door for other leaders to launch personal attacks, but Anwar said that the story was not aimed at any individual.

Azmin, Zuraida, Tian Chua, vice-president Ali Biju and Haniza are scheduled to deliver their wrapping-up speeches today.
