KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 ― All it took was three minutes for two armed robbers to strike at a jewellery store before fleeing with RM1.1 million in gold items.
Terrified onlookers and store workers could only watch as the incident unfolded at the Wah Chan store in Giant Kota Damansara at 10.55am yesterday.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the robbers, who wore face masks and were armed with parang, entered the store and made their way to the display counters located by the aisle.
“One suspect disarmed a security guard of his pump gun while the accomplice unloaded seven jewellery trays into a bag,” he said.
Mohd Zani said the display showcases were not smashed because they were unlocked and the six workers at the store were preparing to open for business.
He said closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage captured the suspects fleeing in a Nissan Almera parked about 50m from the scene.
“We also recovered the pump gun which the suspects discarded near a drain nearby,” he said.
Police are obtaining more CCTV footage from the mall management to track down the robbers.
