Kuala Lumpur - The Kitchen at Gobo Upstairs turns alive with its new Chef!!

 The Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur had a gathering on Tuesday night for guest to hang out with their new Chef of Gobo Upstairs and have a tasting preview of his new menu at Gobo Upstairs.

Traders Hotel General Manager Christian Nannucci was like a proud father when he announced that he decided to promote from within the hotel when searching for a new chef.

 The new chef just recently only took over the stoves at Gobo Upstairs after some on the job  training stints at some of the top local restaurants.and he promises not to keep guest hanging when it comes to great steaks.  The Chef is set to welcome you and entice you with his signature Grilled Tomahawk and other fine cuisines.



Chef Fun Keng Mun, Junior Sous Chef has a vast amount of experience with a wide range of grilling methods, complemented by his passion for food and hospitality. During his time away from the grill, he loves playing basketball and online games. As such, he drives motivation by ensuring the team has fun while working. One thing is for sure - it sizzles, it's savoury and it melts in your mouth.

As I watched the slim young chef  prepare for dinner, I wondered  if he was good as the GM said and by end of the night i was in awe of him. He prepared a fabulous dinner experience for all who were fortunate enough to be invited.         

The Wines were Sponsored by Caldbeck MacGregor, who incidentally has one of the comprehensive variety of wines under their umbrella.



WELCOME DRINK

I must say the welcome drink went down very well, light and aromatic the chilled white wine was hitting all the right spots. You could see every one enjoying it, some like me enjoyed it so much I had two glasses even before the first course was served so i had to Give a Memo to Myself ...... Slowdown!!! This is a wine dinner!!!

When I presented the first course, I saw Beetroot..... I was thinking..... what??? Boring Beetroot? How good can beetroot be? Better put a tree in the picture to make it look nice. BUT After tasting i was Educated by the young Chef, it can be Damn Good! I was looking for more when i finished the dish.

We had 2 starters, everyone was waiting for this course when reading the menu as it had the Malaysian King of Fruits- Durian in it! Being a fan of Durian's in food recipes I was so looking forward to this.

I was wondering how the chef was going to make the combinations of the Mackerel and Salmon
Crabcake and Tuna Balsamic work???  Believe me i savoured every piece of the combination but the tasty crabcake with the Durian Mayo was simply awesome. I was going to ask the chef to do me a take away on the mayo! 

At this stage I was thinking this was going to be my most favourite course.

  Everyone can put one good item on a dish but to put a couple and make it work, is not easy task.

Lobster Bisque....there was silence when it was served, I had to slowdown so i don't make any slurping noises. It was an awesome lobster bisque.
( If  by now you are not making Reservations at Gobo Upstairs for that special occasion I have no idea what you are looking for. No I don't get any commission but you guy's going there, but I will get invited again!!!)

We had choice of 2 Main Course I Chose the Lamb as there would be a sharing plate of  Wagyu Tomohawk which is the most amazing steak in the world if prepared to perfection and since the Chef's speciality is in the grilling, I decided to stick to the meat. Both the lamb and Wagyu Tomahawk was simply awesome full of flavor with the right amount of seasoning and both melted in your mouth. Two person's on my table didn't eat beef, so i graciously helped them out by having their portion too!!!! I was in seventh heaven with this course. Damn he nailed every single course so far.

                                                                                                                                                                  The Last Course was Dessert and again Chef Mun blew everyone away with two world class desserts that came together very well.  It was simply an awesome ending to a wonderful dinner 

Chef Mun gave a Michelin Star Performance and If I could rate him it would be 3 Michelin Stars and if you know, you will know I don't give compliments easily, that's why only the best places dare to invite me and my team, the rest invite celebrity food bloggers.

I highly recommend Chef Mun's fare. If you have a bad experience on your visit video tape it and let me know!
