Police Request For KK Plaza Mall To Assist With Attack On Alleged Thief
KOTA KINABALU: Police are calling the KK Plaza mall security management to lodge a report and shed light on an attack on an alleged thief outside the mall Friday.
This was following a viral video of a group of stall vendors nearby beating the thief, believed to be a mentally unsound man in his forties, with wood and iron pipes.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said prior to the 3pm incident, the victim was asked to leave by the mall’s security guard as he had caused disturbance inside the premise.
The victim walked to the market in front of the mall where he apparently tried to steal one of the vendor’s mobile phone, who caught him in the act.
A chase ensued and the vendor claimed the victim produced a pair of scissors, issuing threats.
Other market vendors then surrounded the victim near the mall’s taxi stand and started beating the man.
The man was seen leaving the scene with a bloodied head.
“Some taxi drivers claimed that the victim was not armed with a pair of scissors or a similar sharp object.
“Police are still looking for the victim but no police report has been lodged by any party yet,” said Chandra, urging the mall security to come forward and assist with the investigations.
