Ex-JPJ deputy D-G charged again for driving on emergency lane, claims trial

PUTRAJAYA: Former Road Transport Department (JPJ) deputy director-general of planning and operations Datuk Yusoff Ayob claimed trial in a magistrate's court here to driving on the emergency lane at Lingkaran Putrajaya.

He appeared before magistrate Syahrul Sazly Md Sain on Tuesday after he was recharged for the offence.
Yusoff, 58, was charged again at the Putrajaya magistrate's court Tuesday following comments from Chief Justice Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif, who said the case would be sent back to the court because Yusoff did not turn up for the hearing last week and instead sent his special officer to plead guilty on his behalf.
On July 18, Yusoff was fined RM600 by a magistrate's court for driving on the emergency lane in Lingkaran Putrajaya, Putrajaya, at 6.27pm on Oct 7 last year.
The offence falls under Rule 53(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 and is punishable with a fine of up to RM2,000, or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, if found guilty.
DPP Izzat Fauzan prosecuted while lawyer Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu acted for Yusoff.
The court later fixed Aug 21 for mention.
