He allegedly committed the offence on July 11 this year, at about 1.15am by the roadside along Jalan Cenderawasih 1, Taman Cenderawasih in Melaka Tengah here.
The offence under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years and fine.
Deputy public prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban did not propose a bail application.
However, the accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a minimum bail saying that he was unemployed.
The court then set bail at RM20,000 with a surety and set Aug 16 for mention.
A video of the incident, where the man had attempted to run over the woman, went viral on social media when the victim, posted the 23-second video clip of the alleged attack on Facebook via her account ‘Nur Dhila’.
The video depicted the man wearing a black baseball hat, gesturing his middle finger as he told the woman that he was going to run over her before he started reversing his car.
The woman then lodged a report over fear that the man would do something to her and her family as she was threatened by the man to “be careful”.
In her report, the man had purposely revved his car outside her house and woke her sleeping baby, who started crying relentlessly.
She finally decided to step out of her house and confronted the man to stop. Her pleas were ignored twice, with the man carried on making a nuisance of himself for at least 10 minutes.
The woman claimed that the man, who was unhappy after being told off, had hit her in the stomach and then reversed his car, threatening to knock her down.
Following the incident, the woman complained that she was still in pain as she had just given birth and was recovering from caesarean section.
The man was arrested on July 12 at his house in Pulau Gadong, Batang Tiga.
The Facebook post had since garnered 23,000 shares and 16,000 reactions, but the victim later removed the video on July 15 after the man was arrested by the police.
