KOTA BARU: A teenager was found dead at the bottom of a 3m deep river about 17 hours after he went missing while swimming with a friend.

Firefighters found the body of 14-year-old Wan Ahmad Azinuddin Wan Mazlan Ariffin on the riverbed at 10am Tuesday.
Wan Ahmad went missing at about 5pm on Monday while swimming in Sungai Baung in Kampung Sentosa Badang here.
His mother, Salmi Salleh, said she had no idea her son had gone swimming.
"I only found out after my eldest daughter Nor Aisyah called me to say my son had gone missing while swimming in the river," she said.
Salmi, who works with the Road Transport Department, said she rushed home from work upon hearing the bad news.
The river is not far from their home in Kampung Tok Dokang.
"As far as I know my son had never gone swimming in that river before," said 46-year-old Salmi.
Salmi, who still appeared shocked, said she must, however, accept the tragedy as fate.
Wan Ahmad's remains were laid to rest at the Kampung Belukar Muslim cemetery in Machang.
Kota Baru Fire and Rescue Services Department chief Zaini Bidin said rescuers started the search at about 7am.
"We found the body within three hours," he said.
He said 30 personnel including the diving team and paramedics were involved in the search and rescue operation.
