Tale of a Good Samaritan doc and a 'mat rempit'
PETALING JAYA: A motorcyclist who was attended to by a doctor who happened to be at the scene of his accident was pleasantly surprised when she visited him in hospital.
A photo of 20-year-old Faizal Hasbullah Alimin being attended to after a motorcycle accident by the Good Samaritan who turned out to be a doctor went viral after his friend posted it on Facebook to thank her.
"I didn't expect her to visit. I was a bit shy, unlike her, who seemed casual. We chatted and she checked my arm and my X-ray. She also was surprised that the story went viral," he said when he told mStar Online of the doctor's visit.
The doctor — a young woman of Chinese ethnicity — also caught the attention of netizens who praised her for her professionalism in coming to the aid of someone in need, regardless of race or religion.
The doctor declined to reveal her name and what hospital she worked at for professional reasons.
According to Faizal, the doctor visited him last Friday on her own without any company and spent about an hour talking with him.
"She told me she had pulled over during the accident to help me, but she could only check my heart rate and lungs as she didn't have much medical equipment with her then," he said.
He said he couldn't thank her enough for helping him without prejudice, despite him being labelled a "mat rempit".
"When I thanked her, she just said 'you're welcome', and that she was just doing her job.She also told me to get well soon and watch what I eat," he said.
Faizal broke his right arm and injured his back at 11.35am last Tuesday when he was travelling on his Kawasaki RR150 from Hulu Langat to Bentong.
After he was admitted to hospital, his friend, Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Sharif, posted a photo of Faizal being helped by the doctor by the roadside on Facebook.
Written in Malay, the post read:
"Respect to this lady. Although she knew we were mat rempit, she stopped to help because she was a doctor. I told her she could leave, but she said she wanted to wait until the ambulance came. Please look for her when you have recovered. She was the one who told me to buy sugar water (for hydration) and she was the one who washed off your wounds. Respect."
