KAJANG: A former company director was jailed for four years by the Sessions Court here for cheating her friend of almost RM1mil over orders for digital camouflage military uniform.
Shamsuzy Mahasan, who is serving a jail sentence for a similar offence, admitted cheating her friend Shahidatul Afifah Omar, 34, into believing that her company Tenaga Kayangan Sdn Bhd had won a Defence Ministry tender to produce digital camouflage military uniform.
She admitted deceiving Shahidatul by promising a profit of 60% from the business capital, thereby inducing her friend to hand over RM904,778 in stages.
Shamsuzy committed the offence at her home at Jalan Tembusu 2, Taman Impian Ehsan, Balakong, between September and April last year.
She was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
In mitigation, Shamsuzy, who was unrepresented, said she is a single mother who had to take care of her parents, a child and four siblings who are still in school.
DPP Siti Balkiah Abdul Yazaid asked the judge to mete out a just sentence, saying the accused had been convicted in other courts in Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur and Bentong.
She said Shamsuzy will be out of prison in 2019 from her a previous sentence, but the complainant in this case will still be suffering from her loss.
Sessions judge Noridah Adam passed a four-year jail sentence, to run from the date of arrest.
According to the statement of facts, Shamsuzy invited Shahidatul to invest in the business because she did not have sufficient capital.
Shahidatul was given a delivery order as proof that Shamsuzy had indeed acquired the tender from the ministry.
After handing over the money in stages through several online transactions, Shahidatul failed to contact Shamsuzy.
Shahidatul went to the ministry to check and was told that Tenaga Kayangan never won any tender.
She then lodged a police report.
Shamsuzy is serving jail time in Kajang Prison for a similar offence involving another victim.
