Five held over kidnap and ransom of businessman

SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested five men suspected of kidnapping and holding a businessman in Rawang for ransom.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat said the 33-year-old victim had just left his house for work when he was bundled into a car by the suspects at Country Homes, Rawang, on Wednesday.
“The suspects then contacted the victim's family and demanded an RM5mil ransom to secure the release of the man, a wholesaler and transport company manager.
“The family immediately contacted the police while negotiations with kidnappers were underway,” he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters Friday.
He said they agreed to a ransom of RM300,000 which was dropped off at Taman Rahman Putra, Sungai Buloh.
“The suspects released the victim at Batu Arang once they received the ransom at around 6.10am on Thursday.
“We then sprang into action and rounded up the five suspects in a series of raids in Batu Arang, Rawang and Klang Valley area on Thursday evening,” he said, adding that the suspects were aged between 22 and 35.
