ROMPIN: A young man arrived at a police station here with the body of a foetus he claimed to have found while fishing near Sepayang dam at about 8am yesterday.
However, upon further questioning, the 20-year-old broke down and confessed that the foetus had been aborted by his 18-year-old girlfriend, and that he was attempting to cover up the incident.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah said the man’s girlfriend, who was picked up by police at 11am yesterday, is believed to have induced an abortion on Wednesday, after taking pills she had purchased online.
"Checks revealed that the man panicked after his partner informed him about her pregnancy and abortion. He then attempted to cover up the incident," said Aidil.
While at his girlfriend’s house in Pontian Jaya here, the man wrapped the foetus in cloth, deposited it in the front basket of his motorcycle, and rode to his workplace at a grocery shop, said Aidil.
The foetus was left in the motorcycle for over an hour.
At 10am, the man then rode to the district police station here and lodged a police report about the foetus, whose gender has not yet been determined.
The man and his girlfriend have been detained for further questioning.
