PETALING JAYA: Film director and rapper Namewee is in hot water as soon as he touched down at the KL International Airport.

He is wanted to facilitate investigations over reports lodged against him about his music video Oh My God! that featured Penang’s floating mosque in Tanjung Bungah, the Khoo Kongsi clanhouse, Wat Chayamangkalaram Thai Buddhist temple and a church, among others.

It is believed that he had just returned from Singapore when he was arrested yesterday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, would be remanded in court today.

Prior to his arrest, Namewee uploaded his official music video on his YouTube channel.

“OH MY GOD it’s here! Wishing everyone a hungry ghost festival. PDRM sila tengok MV baru Namewee! (To the police, please see Namewee’s new music video!),” he posted on Facebook.

The official music video was slightly different compared to the one which was allegedly uploaded by hackers late last month.

All the footage taken at the mosque and footage of four singers dressed as Jesus, fifth century Buddhist monk Xuan Zang, a Taoist priest and a gun-toting man wearing a white robe and a headgear were removed.

It was replaced by scene cuts from a recently released Taiwan comedy Da Xian Shen Wei (The Big Power), among others. The music and lyrics of the four-minute clip remained the same.

The video starts with the azan (call for prayer), a church choir and the ringing of Buddhist meditation gongs as well as Hindu temple bells.

Namewee had alleged that the unedited music video was stolen and was uploaded by hackers on various platforms.

Some 20 non-governmental organisations have lodged police reports early this month against Namewee, who is no stranger to controversies having gained notoriety for some provocative videos earlier.

The music video directed and produced by Namewee featured him and Taiwanese hip-hop trio Spring Wind, Onion and Ken-G.

In a separate video, Namewee said he released the music video as he wanted to promote religious harmony.
