KOTA KINABALU: Motorists and passers-by watched in horror when a motorcyclist was burnt alive after he was involved in an accident with a four-wheel-drive vehicle along the Kunak-Lahad Datu road.
Jaenal Arujammal, 22, collided with the vehicle at 12.30pm on Wednesday and his motorcycle burst into flames.
Passers-by could not do anything to save him as the fire was too intense.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was driving along the road when she saw a ball of fire on the road ahead of her.
“As I neared the scene, I could see something like a moving person on fire. I just couldn’t do anything to help and did not stop as it was too horrifying.
“There were already some people there and I assumed someone must have called for help,” she added.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relations chief Khatizah Rahaban said in a statement that the motorcycle was already engulfed in flames when firemen arrived at the scene. She added that the victim was burnt and had died.
The four-wheel-drive vehicle driver escaped with minor injuries.
Jaenal’s body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem while the driver was given outpatient treatment.
