KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 ― Langkawi MP Datuk Ahmad Nawawi should be stripped of his title for his Facebook remark on the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and “Malaysian Official 1”, the Youth leader of Malay rights movement Perkasa said today.
Irwan Fahmi Ideris called for stern action to be taken against the Umno lawmaker whom he accused of insulting the royal institution.
“This thing is very rude. If possible, we would like to ask for his Datuk title to be removed. Do not give him the title,” Irwan told reporters after submitting a memorandum to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara here.
He also challenged Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to arrest Nawawi for his controversial Facebook post.
He said that the Langkawi MP should be more careful in making remarks and not create further confusion in the issue regarding the US Department of Justice's civil lawsuit to seize assets linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
“Malaysian Official 1”, abbreviated as “MO1”, was the moniker given to an unnamed high-ranking government officer with authority in 1MDB by the US DOJ in its lawsuit.
In a Facebook comment last Tuesday, Nawawi said the Federal Constitution states that the government is made of three arms: the judiciary, executive, and legislature.
He concluded that with all three bodies being answerable to the Agong, “the Agong is MO1”.
Yesterday, Nawawi has insisted that he did not identify the Agong as the 'Malaysian Official 1' from the DOJ's lawsuit.
Instead, he claimed that his Facebook post only sought to state that the Agong is the constitutional head of the country.
