KUALA LUMPUR: The Chief Executive Officer of an investment holding company was fined RM4,500 in default four months' jail for falsifying his degree for the top job three years ago.
Syed Omar Syed Mohamed, 47, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly after the charge was read out to him.
He was charged with using a false document from the University of Sunderland to secure the position as CEO at Damansara Realty Berhad, Level 10, Wisma Chase Perdana, Brickfields, here in June 2013.
According to facts of the case, during an audit on the said company, the accused was found to have used a false document from the university and checks showed that Syed Omar never studied there.
In mitigation, Syed Omar who was represented by lawyer Muhammad Afif Che Had, appealed to the court to give a lighter fine in view that the accused had already pleaded guilty and this had saved the court’s time.
“The accused is taking care of his family with three children,” he said.
But Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar urged the court to give a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to Syed Omar. — Bernama
