Cebu Pacific initiates probe into passenger-cabin crew slapping incident
Cebu Pacific is investigating a slapping incident involving a passenger and a cabin crew during a flight from Manila to Davao on Saturday, July 30.
In a social media post that went viral, the cabin crew who goes by the name of Madel Ty on Facebook claims she has been slapped by a passenger after an encounter that involved stowing the passenger's baggage in the overhead bin.
Ty's photos are no longer available on Facebook.
"I don't want to elaborate what happened. Basta the bottom line, kaming mga cabin crew/flight steward our main priorities are your safety and not to carry or lift your bags," Ty said, noting that she repeatedly apologized to the passenger even after she was insulted.
"Nag-apologize ako ng paulit ulit. Di na ko [sumasagot] at pumapatol. Hinahabaan ko na pasensya ko. Kasi iniintindi ko nalang 'yang galit mo. Ininsulto mo na nga 'yung trabaho namin na akala mo binili mo pati buong pagkatao namin. But this is too much. Di ako pinag-aral ng magulang ko just for you to [slap] me. In the end, hindi naman kami 'yung nagmumukhang walang pinag-aralan at walang manners eh," she said.
Ty did not name the passenger.
In a separate statement on Monday, Cebu Pacific noted that while the primary duty of its cabin crew is to ensure the safety and security of passengers onboard, they are ready to assist passengers in carrying and properly stowing hand carried bags during boarding and deplaning as necessary.
"The passenger in question had expressed dissatisfaction, prior to departure, at having to stow their baggage appropriately as requested by the Cabin Crew member. The Cabin Crew member then assisted the passenger in stowing the baggage in the overhead bin," it said.
"Stowing cabin baggage in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger is a safety requirement mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)," it added.
The airline said it will fully support Ty who is now considering filing charges against the passenger.
"CEB will always fully support its staff when they have been subject to abuse, physical or verbal, from disruptive passengers. Actions that CEB will consider will be to refuse carriage of the passenger on any future CEB flight, along with legal support to its staff member if charges are deemed appropriate," the airline noted. The airline also did not name the passenger. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News- See more at: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/575913/money/companies/cebu-pacific-initiates-probe-into-passenger-cabin-crew-slapping-incident#sthash.He0PApzJ.dpuf
