KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds attended the funeral service of slain moneylender V. Kandasamy, known also as Kanna, at his residence in Taman Melati Utama, Setapak here.

Roll-up buntings of Kandasamy’s portrait were plastered across the walls of the condominium complex’s front gates, with the words “Presiden Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Sosial De’One” (President of De’One Welfare and Social Club) written at the top and bottom of the fabric.

A tent was set up at the complex’s outdoor parking lot for the comfort of mourners who started pouring in as early as 9am Friday.

The hearst carrying Kandasamy’s body left for Nirvana Memorial Park, Semenyih, at about 1pm.

A 35-year old friend who wanted to be known only as Raj, 35, said Kandasamy – also known as Kanna – had always helped the needy including widows and underprivileged kids during their 20-year friendship.

“He helped needy kids to continue their studies. A lot of people respected him,” said Raj.

Two other mourners who wished to remain anonymous added that Kandasamy was a good person who helped a lot of people, saying that his club sponsored RM10,000 for flood victims in Kelantan.

It was reported that Kandasamy was shot 16 times while driving near Setapak Central on Wednesday afternoon.
