KUALA LUMPUR: A sporting goods supplier and a promoter were sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM1,000 for stealing underwear and four Manchester United shirts among other things.
Magistrate Nur' Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor meted out the sentence after Norshahar Jamil, 32, and Nur Adila Ismail, 21, pleaded guilty to the offence.
The two stole two boxes of underwear, four Manchester United shirts, an undergarment, four lingerie and two bags at 3.10pm from Aeon in Quill City Mall in Dang Wangi here. The goods were worth RM720.90.
Lawyer Azi Azlin Zulkifli who appeared for the two pleaded for a lenient sentence saying her clients were remorseful and that they were first time offenders.
She also asked that Nur Adila be exempted from a jail sentence as she was still young and jail was not suitable for her.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaidariah Ahmad asked that a deterrent sentence be given as the stolen goods were not necessities.
