Fake Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors Handbags Seized and 30 year old man arrested for selling them online

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly selling fake branded handbags online.

A total of 339 counterfeit Chanel, Bonia, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors handbags, worth a total RM9,025, were seized when the Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) enforcement officers stormed a commercial premises at Bandar Prai Jaya, near here, at noon on Tuesday .

State KPDNKK deputy director Suhaimi Mat Sari said the department received a complaint from a buyer, who alleged that the handbag she had bought online was an imitation.

“We carried out investigations and found that the person behind the online business also owned a shop in Bandar Prai Jaya.

“Together with several officers from our headquarters, we raided the shop and detained the man.

“Other than the fake handbags, we also recovered 60 steel pieces carved with Bonia logo, 20 steel pieces with Michael Kors logo and five Chanel logos,” he told a press conference at the KPDNKK’s store in Bukit Minyak yesterday.

“We believe many online businesses claim that their products are genuine but they sell them at a discounted price to attract buyers.

“KPDNKK is taking such matters seriously and the man is the first online businessman to be nabbed here.

“As online shopping has become a trend, KPDNKK will monitor online stores closely, and will take strict action against those selling counterfeit products.

“We also welcome the public to lodge reports against dishonest businessmen at our 1800-88-6800 toll-free line.

“We will investigate and take necessary action even if there is only one report lodged,” he added.

The offence under Section 8(1)(b) of the Trade Description Act 2011 carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 for each counterfeit item confiscated.
